The Wright brothers credit their mechanical aptitude to their mother; their father, Bishop Milton Wright, was “one of those men who had difficulty driving a nail straight.” But sadly, Susan died of tuberculosis on Independence Day, 1889, 14 years before the first flight.
Unknowingly, Susan Wright helped change the world. But during her lifetime, her impact remained unsung. So it goes, while Wilbur and Orville’s mother gave them wings, she never lived to see them fly.
